Family friendly, fun filled and fragrant, MN Garlic Festival is the premiere event for lovers of gourmet garlic, great food and good times, all in support of Minnesota’s family farms, local foods and a healthy environment. With a restaurant serving the freshest MN produce and meats prepared by celebrity chefs, great entertainment and chef’s cooking demos, kids games and lots of vendors, and, of course, the very first pick of the 2009 gourmet garlic crop.  Sponsored by the Sustainable Farming Association of MN, Crow River Chapter.

  • 10:30am- Herbal Vinegar, oils, and butters (Marty Bergland- U of M Master Gardener with vast skills using herbs)
  • 11:30am- Growing Chilies in Northern Climes (Gary Cobus- Master Gardener who will show what chilies to grow, how to plant and harvest, and how to use them in your kitchen)
  • 12:30pm- Garlic Vegetables and Roadside Sales (Jean Peterson- Delano vegetable and garlic farmer and co-owner of Peterson Produce, a successful roadside stand)
  • 1:30pm- Anyone Can Grow Garlic (Susan Johnson- from Hawk's Brain Garlic, is a gourmet garlic grower in Red Wing)
  • 2:30pm- The Compassionate Carnivore (Catherine Friend- author of "Hit by a Farm" will read from her new book)
  • 3:30pm- Living Foods (Jessica Flannigan- personal wellness consultant and chef)
  • 4:30pm- Growing and Using Garlic in MN (Joel Girardin- "Grandfather of MN Garlic" talks about growing garlic, varieties, planting, harvesting, garlic scapes, and garlic powder
  • 5:30 pm- Garden Tool Wisdom (Cathy Rose- professional Gardener who will show how you can make working in the garden less labor intensive, and save your back, wrists, and money on tools)
Classes:
By the Little Red Schoolhouse, past the horse building
  • 11:30am- Laughter Yoga with Mary Anderson and her crew of laughers (fun, sill, helpful, happy, garlicky, and smiley Yoga classes for all ages, no special clothing or mats, 30-45 minutes of laughing and fun)
  • 1:30pm- Belly Dance Class with the dancers of JAWAAHIR (a fun time for all, and way to work off all the garlic you just ate!)
Around the Grounds:
  • Light of the Moon Band (extra strength acoustic roots and dance music)
  • Bob Fanauzzo (master of the Native American Flute)
