On January 26, 2010, the Hutchinson Area Chamber CVB will be hosting a regional meeting for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. Businesses from the Hutchinson, Litchfield, Willmar and Glencoe chambers are invited to attend.
As Minnesota emerges from one of the deepest recessions since the great depression, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce continues to ensure that every business in Minnesota has the opportunity to grow and succeed. When the Legislature convenes on February 4, you can be certain that they will be a constant presence reminding our state’s policy makers of the key issues that impact Minnesota’s private sector jobs providers.
A projected $1.2 billion shortfall, combined with the gubernatorial and house elections this fall, will make their job even more challenging.
The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce is prepared to represent your interests on more than 50 key business issues, but their members have established 5 priorities for the 2010 Legislative Session. The Minnesota Chamber is looking to local Chamber members across the state to provide your input on these issues and others!
- State Budget and Spending Reform: Hold the line on general fund taxes increases and advocate spending reforms focusing on greater public sector productivity, reducing overhead costs and changing the budget process.
- Environmental Permitting: Streamline, add certainty and reduce the cost of the environmental permitting.
- Alternative Teacher Licensure: Provide alternative opportunities for experienced professionals to gain teacher accreditation.
- Repeal the Nuclear Ban: Eliminate the gag rule that prevents regulators from discussing the expansion of nuclear energy in Minnesota.
- Health Care Reform: The Chamber will continue to support implementation of the 2008 state health care reforms in an effort to increase quality and control costs. We will also monitor the potential impact of federal health care reform.
