Dean Urdahl taught American History for thirty-seven years at New London-Spicer Middle School in New London, MN. He also coached cross-country track there for twenty-six years. In 2002, he was elected a member of the Minnesota State House of Represenatives.
It was during his years as a HIstory teacher taught Dean began work on his first 1862 Conflict novel "Uprising". "Retribution", a follow up to the very successful "Uprising", is similar in its historical accuracy and shows the heroism and sacrifice of both the early pioneers and the native peoples of Minnesota. Although the book is a work of fiction, Dean used firsthand accounts, recorded statements, and actual people, places and recorded events to write the novel. "Very little is made up" says Urdahl.
According to Dean, he hopes this novel will help to further the understanding of this pivitol moment in Minnesota history and guide how we relate to our present and future with all peoples in that State.
Dean will present his new book at the Museum on Sunday afternoon, January 31st, at 2 PM. Books are available at our gift shop now, and Dean will be signing books after the program.
