Minnesotans are invited to learn about the historic Minnesota State Capitol Restoration Project with a behind-the-scenes presentation by Commissioner Matt Massman of the Department of Administration. The event will be held at the McLeod County Historical Society, Monday, August 22, at 5:30 pm. This free event is a great opportunity for local residents to see the transformation in process, including marble carving, fine-art conservation, decorative painting restoration, and construction on a grand scale as well as a first look at the new and expanded public spaces. The Minnesota State Capitol is undergoing its first comprehensive restoration since the building’s completion in 1905. One of the largest historic restoration projects in the state’s history, the project will restore and transform the building back to its original 1905 design as well as turning much more of the building back to the public. The State Capitol will reopen in 2017.
