Job Summary
This position provides leadership, supervision, and administration for technical programs and related support staff on the Willmar and Hutchinson campuses across all instructional modalities of Ridgewater College.
 
Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Success, this position:
  • Provides administrative oversight and supervision primarily to technical programs, including, but not limited to: Agriculture, Veterinary Technology, Activity Director, Cosmetology, Education, Early Childhood Education, Occupational Skills, Peace Officer/Criminal Justice, Electrician, and Plumbing Technician, offerings on both campuses of Ridgewater College.
  • Aligns division and program goals with the college’s academic and strategic plan and the system’s strategic directions (established by the Board of Trustees).
  • Lead initiatives and day-to-day activities focused on eliminating the educational equity gaps for first-generation students, Pell-eligible, indigenous students and students of color.
  • Works collaboratively to create and implement continuous improvement initiatives to grow enrollment, improve retention and expand quality learning opportunities for students.
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  1. Develop, Lead, and Coordinate: Curriculum and program research, development, review, and assessment across on-campus, hybrid/blended, and online modalities; academic year (i.e., fall, spring, summer) course schedules and faculty loads; department chair and program advisory committee processes; partnership programs, projects, and initiatives within the community, region, and Minnesota State system; community outreach with external stakeholders. 
  2. Student Retention and Completion: Lead and coordinate college wide activities and initiatives focused on student retention and completion (e.g., see item 1 above), including engagement with faculty and staff to further such efforts; engage in collaborative work to develop new programs and/or revise existing programs and course delivery with specific focus on supporting the College’s Strategic Enrollment Management efforts.
  3. Recruit, Hire, Onboard, Lead, and Develop Faculty and Staff: Conduct routine/scheduled evaluations; guide and support faculty professional development plans and related activities; review and process employee leave requests (i.e., personal days, sick days) and time reporting (where applicable); provide feedback for applicable faculty sabbatical proposals and reports; understand and adhere to terms of respective Collective Bargaining Agreements (e.g., MSCF, AFSCME). 
  4. Fiscal Management: Plan, develop, and manage department budgets in alignment with college mission, vision, and goals; seek out grant opportunities; administer grants and related activities as appropriate. 
  5. Organizational Leadership: Provide leadership aligned with mission, vision, and goals of the division and Ridgewater College; work with faculty and the Director of Marketing to identify specific programs each year for focused promotion to increase enrollment; lead or serve on faculty/staff hiring committees as appointed by the President; serve on various college committees, workgroups, and related bodies; assist in development and implementation of college policies; administer College and Minnesota State policies and procedures; represent Ridgewater College at local, regional, state, and national meetings as requested by the Vice President of Student Success. 
  6. Other Administrative Duties: Address student and/or faculty/staff concerns within the division; review and process student requests for atypical course additions/withdrawals; perform other duties as assigned to ensure academic and operational excellence while upholding positive reputation of the College among external stakeholders. 
 
Minimum Qualifications (required skills to enter the job; must be identified on application materials)          
  • Education: Master’s degree, with coursework or professional training relevant to responsibilities of the position.  
Experience: 
  • Two or more years of teaching experience at the postsecondary level. 
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in activities supporting a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations. 
  • Ability to travel between campuses and for periodic conferences and off-site meetings and events; must possess a valid driver’s license. 
 
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not required)
  • Education: Earned doctorate or terminal degree relevant to responsibilities of the position.
Experience:  
  • Leadership experience in a unionized environment. 
  • Previous experience as a college or university administrator.  
  • Teaching or leadership experience within the Minnesota State system. 
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.  
  • Collaborative leadership style. 
  • Teaching or academic leadership experience across a variety of course and program modalities (e.g., on-campus, hybrid/blended, online).
