Jay Malone Motors Collecting Food for McLeod Emergency Food Shelf Throughout September

HUTCHINSON, Minn. — Jay Malone Motors will serve as a community food collection point throughout September, with all donations going to the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf.

The effort is part of the Ford Building Together Global Food Drive, a September initiative in which Ford dealers across 31 countries collect food for food banks in their own communities at the same time. Last year the dealer network collected more than two million pounds of food worldwide. Every item donated in Hutchinson stays in McLeod County.

Community members can drop off non-perishable food inside the dealership showroom at 1165 Highway 7 West, Hutchinson, from September 1 through September 30. Drop-off is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment or purchase is necessary.

"The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf feeds families in this county every week of the year, not just in September," said Jordan Malone-Forst, Assistant General Manager at Jay Malone Motors. "Our part in this is simple. We're open longer hours than they are, including Saturdays, so we can be a place where people drop off a bag of groceries when they're already out running errands."

The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf operates distribution sites in both Hutchinson and Glencoe, along with a mobile outreach program serving other parts of the county. Groceries are available to McLeod County households with no proof of income required and no appointment needed.

Items that can be dropped off include peanut butter and nut butters, canned tuna or chicken, low-sodium soups and vegetables, canned fruit, pasta and sauce, rice, dry beans, and low-sugar cereals. Perishable items, glass containers, pet food, and opened packages cannot be accepted.

Jay Malone Motors has been family-owned in Hutchinson since 2005.
